GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: This position is responsible for managing the scale-up and transfer of new products and materials from RandD into commercial manufacturing. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining support for all ongoing new product development projects by coordinating engineering activities and resources, as well as a timely and high quality supply of trial materials for customer sampling and applications support. The position includes direct supervision of the Pilot Production and Polymer Synthesis Lab personnel as well as department cost center, resource and materials management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with RandD, Product Managers, Quality and Operations to manage activities and resources related to the scale-up of new products and materials for Advanced Packaging and Damascene metallization applications. Provide direct supervision of personnel including pilot lab technicians and synthesis chemists, and indirect management and coaching of product development engineering teams. Manage activities to support prioritized targets for the business, including engineering design reviews, FMEAs and program risk review process for all new product launches. Support new product registration for key customers. Build and maintain engineering discipline and competencies around material scale-up and new product development. Manage ongoing supply of polymer intermediates for high volume manufacturing, and provide technical support of polymer synthesis processes in pilot production and at toll suppliers. Work with product development teams to identify and control key input variables for new products and processes during scale-up, and define specification requirements for new products and processes Lead process improvement strategies for existing formulations and manage improvements projects to identify and control sources of variation in polymer and product manufacturing. Coordinate and provide technical troubleshooting support, principally to Operations and Quality related to raw material control and scale-up issues. Initiate documentation associated with new products and processes including but not limited to: operating procedures, work instructions, master file documents, control plans, internal test and specification documents, etc. Ensure that all health, safety and environmental requirements of the department are maintained and work with site EHS and regulatory groups to promote good safety practices and behaviors within the department. Manage monthly expense budget and capital and equipment / capacity requirements for pilot production lab and polymer synthesis building. Coordinate lab support for engineering and quality assurance investigations into failures, qualifications, and customer complaints. Initiate documentation associated with new products and processes including but not limited to: operating procedures, work instructions, master file documents, control plans, internal test and specification documents, etc. Update progress on key projects to management and across departments and effectively manage resources to maintain timelines and objectives.
