Job Function

Reporting to the Director of the Office of Disability Services, the Part-Time Graduate Assistant for Disability Services Office will assist in oversight of note-taking services, assist with proctoring exams during peak volume times, assisting with research regarding accommodations, and communications with students, faculty, and staff. The Part-Time Graduate Assistant will assist with the creation, implementation, and management of new communication platforms, as well as with maintaining current communications platforms. These include social media, blogs, websites, letters, and other forms of internal college communications. This person will support the work of the entire Disability Services staff.

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary
  1. Work with current staff to assist in handling the needs of the department
  2. Conduct research as assigned on issues pertaining to accommodations.
  3. Assist with updates for the website and assess whether other media platforms are appropriate for improving communications with students, faculty, and staff.
  4. Create plans with current staff for improving note-taking services.
  5. Sharing responsibilities of exam scheduling and coordinating.
  6. Produce letters or other written promotional materials for the department.
  7. Provide proctoring support as needed during peak times, especially final exams each semester.
  8. Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Outstanding writing skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Comfort with using social media and a variety of communications tools.

  • Must be comfortable with research and have some research experience.

  • Friendly demeanor; good social skills; ability to be part of a team.

  • Must take direction and feedback well.

Required Qualification Summary
  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in disability services, disability studies, and/or higher education. In addition s/he should have the following:

  • currently enrolled in a graduate degree program;

  • prior experience working in an educational environment, preferably in higher education;

  • prior experience working with disability services or other supportive services in an educational setting.

Additional Information

We are looking for a candidate with flexible hours. Our current needs are for end of the Spring 2018 academic year and potentially Fall 2018 & Spring 2019 as well are for between 15 to 20 hours per week.
