General Description

The English Language Center (TELC) is the largest ESL program in the New York metropolitan area,serving over 4,500 students a year since 1971. TELC is committed to providing high quality Englishlanguage programs that meet the needs of a culturally and academically diverse student population.TELC offers a variety of ESL programs including intensive academic preparation which meetsrequirements for students on F-1 visas, part-time afternoon and evening courses, and integrated skillsclasses on Saturdays. The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Associate and AssistantDirectors in the day-to-day operations of programs as well as enriching the program through newcourses and curricula.

Reports to: The Associate Director

Primary Duties:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Morning Intensive, Afternoon Intensive, and Afternoon Part-time Programs

  • Oversee the registration, testing, placement, grading, and promotion of over 400 day students on a quarterly basis

  • Provide instructional support to over thirty instructors through observation, mentoring, and assistance with integrating digital technology into their classes

  • Organize professional development opportunities for faculty

  • Assess student needs and goals and develop appropriate new and innovative curricula

  • Manage student support efforts including assigning tutoring and mediating student concerns

  • Expand course offerings to meet the needs of underserved populations

  • Participate in marketing efforts with the goal of increasing enrollment

Other Duties


  • Master’s Degree in TESOL or a closely related field

  • Minimum 3 years experience teaching ESL/EFL to an adult population

  • Strong organizational and managerial skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytic skills

  • Ability to work effectively with members of a diverse faculty and staff

  • Experience in creating and delivering professional development opportunities
