Stony Brook University Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

PhD in Biology, Marine Science, Environmental Sciences, and/or related field. Experience with research and publishing on harmful algal blooms. Experience with performing field and culture experiments with phytoplankton and zooplankton. Experience with field studies of harmful algal blooms. Experience with the microscopic identification of harmful algae.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with the use of flow cytometry for quantifying plankton populations. Experience with an imaging flow cytobot. Experience with isolating nucleic acids. Experience with PCR, qPCR, or RT-qPCR. Experience with processing and analyzing high throughput sequencing data sets such as transcriptomes, bar-coded DNA sequencing, metagenomes, or genomes. Publications within the related field.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. The selected candidate will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

  • Write Manuscripts and Grants

  • Analyze field samples with a imaging flow cytobot

  • Conduct experiments and phytoplankton and zooplankton cultures and assemblages.

  • Perform PCR and sequencing on target genes and organisms.

  • Analyze high-throughput sequencing data sets.

  • Attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes:

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
