The Public Relations Manager operates at a regional level and reports to a senior executive in the regional business and take their guidance from Senior Manager: Public Relations. The primary responsibility of the Public Relations Manager is to develop and implement a regional public relations strategy that ensures a favourable image and reputation of Dimension Data exists with the general public, clients and potential employees.

What you'll be doing

Strategy

The Public Relations Manager contributes to the definition and management of the strategies and tactical plans for the regional organisation, creating a strong corporate image of the company in the world of business. They develop a regional communications strategy ensuring that the method of communication and information distributed to the public is in line with best practice and effectively promotes the company brand. These individuals develop a strategy that ensures the cultivation and enhancement of meaningful relationships with targeted external audiences, including the media and key influencers in the industry. They work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders to advise on the formulation of policies and procedures related to public information programs.

Public communication

The Public Relations Manager plays an important role in communicating the company’s policy and in so doing uses a variety of media and communication methods. They research and write press releases and ensure that these reach the target audience. These individuals are actively involved in preparing publicity brochures, hand-outs, promotional videos and multimedia programs that aim to communicate the company’s policy, philosophy and approach to the public. They confer with the Human Resources team to develop internal communication that keep employees informed of the relevant company activities.

Corporate brand

Public Relations Managers ensure the composition and writing of effective press releases and that comprehensive information about the company for the media is compiled. They ensure the preparation of information for media kits, organising press conferences, exhibitions and press tours. He/she is responsible for the development of the company’s internet and intranet web pages and develop and maintain the company’s corporate image and identity, including the use of logo’s and signage. They evaluate advertising and promotional programs and ensure compatibility with public relations efforts of the business.

Public relations

The Public Relations Manager acts as a bridge between the company, the media and other organisations. He/she answers all questions related to the company’s strategies and they direct the activities of external agencies, establishments and departments that develop and implement communication strategies and information programs on behalf of Dimension Data. They may be required to draft speeches of the regional executives for public meetings.

Relationship management

Public Relations Managers develop and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders and clients, including government officials and media representatives. These individuals ensure the co-ordination of parties to introduce new products, arrangement of special events like the sponsorship of races, sports tournaments and are responsible for the direct and indirect advertising that ensure that the regional organisation gains public attention. They produce films and other video products, regulating their distribution and operating the film library.

People management

He/she acts as people manager for employees within the regional communication and media organisation. He/she ensures the full utilisation of resources. To achieve this, the Public Relations Manager coaches and develops individuals in the team and takes the lead in critical situations. They manage work activities and ensure successful completion of processes.

Behavioural skills

Public Relations Managers have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and a deep understanding of the business. They use their creative and writing ability to influence the public image of the organisation. These individuals have excellent networking, collaboration and relationship building skills with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders at all levels in the business. They have strong strategic thinking and leadership skills. They practice two-way communication and listen to and understand others’ points of view. They are creative and innovative individuals who are able to deliver practical solutions to the achievement of the global business strategy.
