The Program Manager working in close consultation with the Director of the Language Resource Center (LRC), is responsible for coordinating the Mellon-funded Distance Learning initiative at Columbia University's Language Resource Center. The Program Manager works closely with institutional partners to guide the development of distance language courses and train faculty on best practices. The incumbent assists the Director of the LRC in developing, monitoring, and documenting assessment strategies to determine the effectiveness of the initiative. In addition, the Program Manager contributes to the day to day coordination of the existing technical infrastructure of the initiative as well as facilitating communication between partner institutions and the funding agency.

Key Responsibilities: Assists the Director of the LRC in the day to day coordination of the Mellon-funded distance learning initiative across participating institutions (Columbia, Yale, Cornell) including training and assessment as well as the provision of administrative, budgetary, pedagogical and technology assistance. Works with the Director of the LRC to plan and direct the development and utilization of distance learning technologies for the delivery of language instruction to Columbia University and partner institutions. With direction from the Director of LRC, the program manager collaborates with internal Columbia University and partner institution departments regarding all aspects of the distance learning programs to include design and development of appropriate training, coordination of scheduling and delivery of distance courses, and maintenance of data regarding participation. Assists the Director of the LRC oversee budgetary responsibility for the initiative at Columbia as well as across all three institutions. Coordinates with partner institutions and funding agency as needed. Performs other duties as needed.

Please note this is a grant funded position. Funding for this position will end on 6/30/2018. Continued upon renewal of funds.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum 2-4 years' related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

2 years of related experience in the area of language instruction or in the delivery of distance/blended learning.

Basic knowledge of models and technology including development and design of distance learning training materials; training delivery, platform skills, and follow-up assessment techniques. Some prior experience working with Distance Learning technologies (Learning Management Systems, Video Conferencing, Web 2.0 tools, Distance teaching, etc.).

Interest in designing, developing and managing technology and learning projects. Experience in language teaching and demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition theory and pedagogy. Must have excellent organizational, written, and oral communication, listening, and training/development skills.

Ability to travel as needed.

Special Instructions

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Instructional Design or advanced degree in Language Studies strongly preferred.
