Team Overview

The Real Estate Platform sits within BlackRock Alternative Investments, which has experienced increased growth over the past year. The Real Estate Fund Accounting Oversight (“FAO”) team is responsible for accounting oversight for both real estate equity and real estate debt portfolios. Real estate equity portfolios consist of multi-housing, commercial and/or joint venture properties. Real estate debt portfolios include but are not limited to first mortgages, mezzanine loans, commercial mortgage backed securities (“CMBS”) and preferred equity, which are collateralized by commercial properties.

The FAO team is responsible for working with third party fund accounting administrators to ensure proper accounting, reporting and compliance for its multitude of open and closed end funds. This includes reviewing and analyzing property and portfolio related operating data as well as monthly/quarterly fund level accounting packages and quarterly fund level financial statements prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. FAO team is responsible for reviewing investor capital account allocations and fund level waterfall distribution calculations. FAO team coordinates with external auditors on year-end audits and assists with work papers for internal/external tax accountants as part of the year end income tax return preparation.

The FAO team will also be involved in onboarding of new real estate fund products, including operational set-up and the review/documentation of management and performance fees to ensure adherence to established accounting policies and procedures. The FAO team interacts daily with many other areas of the firm such as Portfolio Management, Valuations and Capital Markets, and Client Communications teams to collaborate execution of tasks.

Role Responsibility

The Accounting Vice President will be responsible and involved in all aspects noted above, with a focus on streamlining operational processes to enhance efficiencies. The Vice President must be able to work both independently and as part of a team that includes professionals across BlackRock, as well as partner with third party accounting administrators to ensure accurate reporting to investors.A successful candidate in this role will be positioned well with growth opportunities as the Alternatives platform continues to grow with the ever evolving real assets market.

Experience

Ideal candidate:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet reporting deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility with delivery of assignments.
  • Technology proficiency is essential as the candidate would leverage a number of software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as YARDI.
  • Candidate must exhibit strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Candidate must be client service oriented and exhibit ability to problem solve
  • Minimum education requirement: Bachelor Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum experience requirement: Six years accounting experience (public accounting experience is a plus).
  • Real Estate and/or Private Equity experience preferred
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required
